Via Mansur Gidfar at Upworthy, we have a 2011 video of a very oblivious Willard M. Romney talking marriage equality (or in Mitt's case, inequality) with a no-longer undecided Vietnam War veteran. And it all played out for the cameras at a New Hampshire photo op-gone-wrong. See, the vet was a gay newlywed who believes in things like, you know, equal rights.
Bob Garon asked Romney if he supported the repeal of the New Hampshire same-sex marriage law. He didn't think Willard's answer was satisfactory. Some excerpts:
"Ohhh, I guess the question was too hot."
"I also learned something in New Hampshire is right. You have to look a man in the eye to get a good answer. And you know what, Governor? Good luck."
"He's not getting my vote. He told me that I'm not entitled to constitutional rights. I think a man and a woman and a man and a man should be treated equal! What the hell's the difference?"
"I was undecided, but I'm totally convinced today that he's not gonna be my president!"
"Take your 'No way, Jose' back to Massachusetts."
Q: Why do you feel so strongly about that?
Bob Garon:
"Because I'm gay! Alright? And I happen to love a man just like you probably love your wife!"
"I went and I fought for my country ... and I think my spouse should be entitled to the same entitlements as if I was married to a woman. What the hell's the difference?!... Absolutely I was definitely offended!"
